Polypropylene Sutures

Monofilament
Smooth surface will not support bacterial growth.
Synthetic
Elicits only minimal tissue reaction.

Non Absorbable
Provides permanent tensile strength retention in tissue, even in the presence of infection.

Polypropylene blue/black (PP) is a non-resorbent monofile thread with a smooth pore free surface.

Polypropylene Suture  is a synthetic non-absorbable monofilament suture made of Polypropylene, available in blue colour to enhance visibility.

sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neurological procedures. Besides the normal DDP packaging, Polypropylene Sutureis also offered in a LongPack presentation completely avoiding the memory effect.

Polypropylene suture is a non-absorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of a synthetic linear polyolefin. Polypropylene is dyed blue to enhance visibility in the body. Polypropylene suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in the tissue, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous tissue. Unlike absorbable, and some non absorbable sutures, Polypropylene is not affected or weakened by tissue enzymes. Thus, Polypropylene is not subject to any degradation or loss of tensile strength. Due to its monofilament composure, Polypropylene suture resists involvement in infection. Moreover, Polypropylene has been successfully implemented in contaminated and previously infected wounds.

As with other synthetic sutures, knot security requires the standard technique of square ties with additional throws as indicated by surgical circumstances and the experience of the operator.

Distinctive Characteristics of  Polypropylene:

·  Extremely high tensile strength

·  Very Flexible

·  Due to its synthetic and monofilament characteristic, Polypropylene Elicits only minimal tissue reactivity.

·  Polypropylene is highly ductile. It extends 30% prior to rupture of the thread, allowing for the post-operative swelling of tissue and avoiding possible strangulation of tissue.

·  Allows for secured knot tying.

·  Extremely smooth textile, resulting in minimal tissue trauma.

-  Excellent knot tying features.
- Excellent knot run down and security
- Minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues
- Unsurpassed strength
- Optimal elasticity and elongation properties

Note: Polypropylene sutures meet or exceed USP minimum.

PVDF (Polyvinyldinefluoride)  Sutures

PVDF (Polyvinyldinefluoride) (PV) is blue or black non-resorbent monofile thread made out of Polyvinyldinefluoride.
The tissue areas where PVDF is used are similar to those polypropylene. PVDF, however, provides a better and tighter knotting process with fewer knots. As with polypropylene, PVDF may also be used for implanting.
Micro-needle thread combinations with PVDF carry dark grey framed labels.

  • PVDF Suture is unique among synthetic nonabsorbable monofilament sutures in that it is made of Polyvinylidene fluoride homopolymer  polymers

PVDF Suture is manufactured using a patented polymerization process with a unique extrusion process to produce an optimal balance of physical and handling characteristics throughout the range of suture sizes.

The resulting strength ensures PVDF Suture will remain secure in critical surgical procedures where life-long stability is required, particularly in delicate applications where fine suture sizes are used.

As with other synthetic sutures, knot security requires the standard technique of flat and square
ties with additional throws if indicated by surgical circumstances and experience of the surgeon.

Caution: Care should be taken to avoid damaging the surface of the material with surgical
instruments.

These sutures comply with the requirements of U.S. Pharmacopoeia (U.S.P.) and The European Pharmacopoeia (PhEur) except for a slight oversize in gauge size Metric 0.5 (7/0)

·

·         Excellent Tying Characteristics

A practical advantage of a monofilament suture is that prepared knots can easily be placed in the required position.

2. Superior Knot Security

For optimal knot security: PVDF can easily be tied to a fixed knot - giving maximum security.

3. Maximum Strength Retention

PVDF is neither absorbed nor weakened by tissue enzymes.

4. Minimal Package Memory

PVDF is characterised by an ability to hold its shape and has minimal out of package memory.
